A message from David Anderson- PKAVS Volunteer Support Officer
Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service – known locally as PKAVS is a local charity with a big heart and a long history of giving – helping individuals and families from different backgrounds across Perth and Kinross since 1972. This includes two much-needed services in Blairgowrie – our day centre for older people and Wisecraft – which provides support to people recovering from mental health challenges. Volunteers are vitally important to all our work and without volunteers PKAVS would struggle to provide the help and support to children, young people, vulnerable adults and their families that really makes a difference.
We provide a wide range of much-needed services – from shopmobility to support for young carers and everything in between – our charity shop in South Street, Carers Telephone Support Service, Minority Communities, our Perth and Blairgowrie Day Centres for older people, the Walled Garden, Fundraising activities, Respitality – seeking support for carers from local businesses etc. A range of diverse services, supporting a wide range of needs. Volunteers are involved in all of these services, including much-needed volunteer drivers. To continue to help, we simply need more volunteers to join us!
As a volunteer you’ll meet new people, gain new skills and make a difference to someone’s life - we also hope you’ll have a lot of fun. You must be 16 or over and there’s no upper age limit to getting involved. We also provide induction training and will reimburse your expenses. Even if you only have a little bit of time to give, perhaps 2-3 hours weekly we’d be delighted to hear from you. There’s no limit to how much time you can give - it's up to you!
A message from Paul Graham, Chief Executive of PKAVS –
“Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation and are essential to everything that we do. Volunteers help us extend and enrich the work that we do, by bringing a diversity of skills, life experience, community knowledge, enthusiasm and time.
If you have some time to give we’d be delighted to hear from you or if you would simply like to find out a little bit more about the opportunities available – please get in touch “
And from Dave one of our Day Centre Volunteers who has been with us for just over two years –“Mondays wouldn’t be the same without PKAVS. I am recently retired and drive the day centre minibus and enjoy the company of lots of interesting people. Everyone makes you feel welcome and its lots of fun –would definitely recommend it. Even my dominoes have improved!
