Perth & Kinross Service Navigator
Your community driven, A-Z guide to the third sector and beyond!
With over 900 individual charities, Perth and Kinross is home to a vibrant third sector.
This landscape can become overwhelming for individuals who need support or want to find ways to engage with their local communities. Likewise, it is a challenge for third sector organisations to raise their profile and ensure their impact is felt where it is most needed.
To address this, PK TSI created the Service Navigator, a digital resource that connects individuals and organisations committed to making positive change.
The Service Navigator provides an accessible and collaborative guide to the wide range of services available in Perth and Kinross. This user-friendly platform was designed with the principles of participatory mapping in mind and allows for anyone to make a contribution.
From crisis support to cultural activities, the Service Navigator is here to support the resilience of individuals and organisations alike across Perth and Kinross.
Getting to know the Service Navigator
The Service Navigator is simple in design and easy to use, with over 250 organisations taking part. These step-by-step guides and frequently asked questions will help you make the most of this mapping tool.
The Service Navigator is here to enable partnerships and collaboration, ease signposting and referrals, and showcase the resources available to individuals and organisations in Perth and Kinross.
Anybody can access and add to the Service Navigator. To contribute to the map, you must first make an account and sign in.
Public sector services are welcome to contribute to the map. When you add your service, you can select ‘public service’ as an organisation type.
To make the map work for everyone, services must be added as a single point on the map rather than a broad area. This way, all organisations feature equally and everyone can see the wide array of services available at a glance.
However, you don’t have to worry that your organisation will be overlooked because of this. When looking for a service, users tend to select a theme and then scan the whole map or scroll through the sidebar to find the right fit. Additionally, when you add your organisation to the map, you can include a description that reflects the work you do and areas you serve.
Maps and directories are an effective awareness-raising tool for the third sector. Because of this, PK TSI collaborates and shares our knowledge with other organisations that are working to produce similar resources. Individual preferences are unique, so there is no need to limit yourself to one platform.
We created the Service Navigator to offer a collaborative and community-led option for mapping. It is here to empower organisations to play an active role in promoting their work to a wider network. It also serves to gather data for the benefit of the wider sector.
