Volunteering
We aim to support the growth and development of volunteering in the third sector in Perth and Kinross.
You will be supported to recruit, support and develop volunteers effectively, ethically and sustainably, complementing and not supplementing the labour market.
We will work hard to ensure the people of Perth and Kinross can access quality volunteering opportunities, are inspired, encouraged and motivated to volunteer. Volunteer achievement will be recognised and promoted through programmes such as Saltire Awards.
We will coordinate a Volunteer Manager’s Forum to bring volunteer hosting organisations together and aim to develop a plan with the sector to address the challenges organisations and volunteers face.
We recognise there is a high level of demand for volunteers. We hear you when you report that volunteer numbers overall have fallen, and that recruitment of volunteers is challenging. Many older volunteers have not returned to the sector after the health challenges of Covid-19, and new volunteers who were active in the community during Covid-19 have not been retained. Youth, minority and disadvantaged groups remain under-represented within volunteering.

Volunteers are an incredible bank of motivated individuals who want to help their local community. Their purpose is to compliment, not supplement, the role of paid staff. If you are unsure about this, please contact us at info@thirdsectorpk.org.uk for more guidance.
