Refugee Festival Scotland is taking place from 14 – 23 June with activities across Perth & Kinross, including an Eid Ul Adha celebration, a day of art and storytelling, and more.
Here is a calendar of these events and some reflections on from our Equalities Development Officer, Madelyn Schoonover, to coincide with Refugee Week 2024.
Over the past 24 years, the Refugee Festival Scotland has grown from a single Glasgow-based event to a ten-day festival with events all over Scotland. This expansion could not have been possible without the work and dedication of the third sector nationwide.
Refugees and asylum seekers play an integral role in communities across Scotland, including in Perth and Kinross. These individuals, who have overcome incredible hardships, embody this year’s festival theme of ‘RISE’.
In Perth and Kinross, refugees and asylum seekers volunteer to make our collective home more beautiful, sustainable, and healthy. As New Scots, they share their cultures with us through food, drink, dance, celebrations, discussion and debate, sport, and prayer.
As your local TSI, we’re excited to see so many events across Perth and Kinross participating in the 2024 Refugee Festival Scotland. We hope you will join in the celebrations this year and in the years to come!
