5 Meaningful Volunteering Opportunities in Your Community

Home » News » 5 Meaningful Volunteering Opportunities in Your Community

Volunteering is an essential part of Perth and Kinross’s third sector, with benefits for individuals, organisations and the sector as a whole.

Research indicates it’s not just organisations who benefit, but also volunteers. Volunteering can boost your self-esteem, social networks and career connections. This is especially true for those of us already working in the third sector and anyone who feels strongly about making a difference for their communities or themselves.

With these benefits in mind, here are some active volunteering opportunities in communities in Perth and Kinross. We will soon be announcing a new way for organisations and volunteers to connect, so stay tuned!

1. Lend your voice to VoiceAbility Benefits Advocacy

Could you spare a few hours a week to help people access benefits? VoiceAbility are looking for volunteers.

✅ Learn new skills
✅ Get support from a friendly team
✅ Make a difference

Volunteer with VoiceAbility to help your local community to understand their rights, and access the benefits they’re entitled to.

2. Step into Martha’s Kitchen at Riverside Church

Martha’s Kitchen is looking for volunteers to support this relaxing community café:

  • Bakers
  • Dishwashers
  • Cleaners
  • Soup Makers

Anything from one to five hours a week would be appreciated!

If you would like to get involved in the Martha’s Kitchen Community and Journey, please contact Jane at: JSmith@churchofscotland.org.uk

3. Surviving suicidal thoughts – a call for volunteers from NHS 24

Surviving suicidal thoughts launched in 2022 to support people who are living with suicidal thoughts, their families, friends, and communities.

It features stories from people who experienced very different situations and circumstances – but who found a way past suicidal thoughts. Their words and voices offer support and strategies for people who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, and to those around them, family, friends, work mates and others.

NHS 24 wish to expand their video content and are keen to engage with people who would be interested in speaking about the strategies that have helped them.

If you feel that your organisation and the people you support would be interested in hearing more about this work, please contact Gail at nhs24.engagementteam@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

4. Volunteer with RASAC Perth & Kinross and support women and girls

Do you want to make a difference and be part of work that addresses violence against women and girls?

RASAC Perth & Kinross have a range of opportunities available and are currently welcoming volunteer applications from women in Perth & Kinross.

For further information, please contact The Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Perth & Kinross by email: training@rasacpk.org.uk or telephone: 01738 626290

5. Train Puppies and support Guide Dogs UK

We posted about this earlier in the month, but it’s too cute (and relevant) not to share again:

Guide Dogs is seeking Puppy Raisers and fundraising volunteers!

That’s all for now, but there is plenty more to come!
