Effective Approaches to Community Collaboration

Webinar – Commissioning with Communities

This presentation looks at effective approaches to working with communities in designing services, and leans on the ideas of appreciative inquiry – look first at what is strong, at what people value, at what helps them the most and then build on that.

Commissioning with Communities is an online thematic workshop hosted by Social Enterprise Scotland, TSEF and the TSI Network.

The recording of the webinar is now available.

The presenters draw on their experience as commissioners of services, and offer some strong tips about gathering insights – going in as equals and dropping the trappings of work, always testing what you are saying or doing with the community before rolling it out, letting emotions play a role in finding what matters, understanding you can’t control the immediate environment but you can try to understand it.

The presentation also includes the short animation – The Parable of Blobs and Squares which will resonate with many who have participated in consultations as community representatives. It is well worth a watch if you are planning a community consultation and if you are seeking maximise the effectiveness of your engagement with groups.
